Please join PeaceWorks in pushing against a US/NATO war with Russia. Join us in mourning all the suffering in Ukraine: Suffering of the Russian speaking Ukrainians in the eastern part of the country, victims of an ongoing 8-year war by ultra-nationalist (Nazi) Ukrainian forces. And suffering of Ukrainians who are experiencing violence from Russian troops in their effort to root out those Nazi forces.
Watch Ukraine on Fire to understand the back story, the whole story, of this tragic situation.
Tax Day gets us thinking about what it means to live in a Representative Democracy. Each family pays its fair share (?) in taxes to fund essential services: see the National Priorities Project graphic and learn more at https://www.nationalpriorities.org.
Is this how you’d choose to spend your tax dollar?
2 cents of every dollar for education?
53 cents of every dollar for our military?
How about working toward a People’s Budget?
What would that look like?
PeaceWorks will be outside the Brunswick Post Office
on April 19 from 11:30-1:00
with handouts and conversation. Join us.
Last of the Lenten Vigils
Friday, April 15
We gather in solidarity with tax resisters all over the US protesting at manufacturing sites for the military industrial complex. We say NO! to the use of our tax dollars to support endless war.
Lent signals a turning point from winter to spring, from despair to hope, from choosing death to enhancing life, from building “destroyers” to creating a world without war.
Each warship built keeps us from the Love needed to heal our Mother Earth.
Disarmament (Resurrection!) means turning away from warships and instead healing the many crises that surround us.
Please bring signs and a mask. Smilin’ Trees Disarmament Farm. 763-4062
Earth Day – April 22
Earth Day is a day to celebrate the wonders of our planet home and to hold our Representatives accountable for taking the climate crisis seriously. Ending subsidies for fossil fuel corporations is years overdue.
Consider how those military taxes we pay cause deep harm to our Earth.
The Pentagon has the largest of all carbon footprints.
Every time a missile is fired is a direct attack on our very fragile climate.
Write to Chellie Pingree and insist she push for policies to protect the Earth.
PeaceWorks will be outside Bath Iron Works
On April 22 from 11:30-12:30
Urging conversion from building weapons that harm the climate.
To building alternative energy systems that protect it.
